This is with a Motherboard with onboard video (4200 chipset) but I also included a Raedeon 5770 since you had room in your budget.

Here's a build off another person and I agree with everything except
Go with an antec 300 and the cas7 G.sKill ripjaws ddr3 1600.
Honestly I'm having trouble trying to fit in a monitor into the build but I'd rather see you get a 5850 and spend more towards a monitor. Better to get the good video card now then later.

Also by 1080p monitor you probably mean any monitor with a decent contrast ratio with a 1920x1080 rez.

thats pretty sick, what about a phenom black quad core processor? how much more would that cost?

I have no idea what to look for in a motherboard or GPU also lol

Ideally you'd have a 955 BE and a 5850. That will add 260 dollars to your build.

But also remember, my build has a 1920x1080p 23" widescreen monitor included in the build.

Get CMCGHEE's build it looks good. Certainly 955 and 5850 are good (that's what I'm running) but $260 is $260.

Also a 23" monitor and a comp for $800 is almost unheard of.

For gaming, you don't need more than 2 cores. Raw speed matters more than cores in most games (obviously, there are exceptions like GTAIV, FSX,etc). However, for $160, the 955 is quite a good deal. If your budget allows, go for the 955 by all means. Else, get a X3. If you can, I recommend waiting a week or so for Newegg to get the X6s, that should drop the quad prices by ~$10-15.
