ECC RAMs on non-ECC motherboards?

Given my situation (1155 motherboards with max 4 memory slots), I have to buy 8GB RAM dimms. The only 8GB RAM dimms I found are ECC. Does that mean I must buy an ECC-supporting motherboard only? What will happen if I put ECC RAMs on an Asus P8P67 for example? (asus.com says: 4 x DIMM, Max. 32 GB, DDR3 2200(O.C.)*/2133(O.C.)/1866(O.C.)/1600/1333/1066 Non-ECC,Un-buffered.)

Hard to say. Mine ran fine on a board that didn't require ecc ram. It even overclocks. But registered ram won't work. It's strictly for server boards and cpus, such as the xeon.
