Hi,

I have problems with an Asus P5K motherboard.
For example, while listening music with Winamp the sound freezes for short time (maybe 1/10 seconds or something) but this happens regularly and it's very annoying. During these short "freezings", the mouse cursor will stop also for a short moment. Music freezes something like "TRRRRR!!" and goes on again...

This only happen with Windows. Everything works well with GNU/linux debian.

I've been searching for weeks on how to fix this very annoying bug. I have the following hardware:

Asus P5K,
Intel Core 2 6420@ 2.13GHz
2 GB of RAM
Habu USB mouse
USB keyboard

Windows XP Pro SP3.

I followed the instructions I found on the following websites:
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/244415-12-problem-mouse-sounds-freezes-actitity
http://www.techsupportforum.com/hardware-support/motherboards-bios-cpu/174097-asus-p5k-mobo-ide-activity-breaks-sound.html
http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?id=20071014035736062&board_id=1&model=P5K&SLanguage=en-us

I tried to install the latest jmicron driver, I tried to unplug the IDE hard drive, I tried to disable the extra IDE in the BIOS, I tried to disable the secondary IDE channel as well as the second PCI IDE Controller. I tried to revert the Intel ICH9 Family Controller to the Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE controller in the device manager. NONE of these solutions worked for me. I am terribly desperated about this issue.

My current Device manager looks like this:

Please, any help will be very very very much appreciated (like very).

Hi,

Thank you for your answer. I guess you are talking about the following link http://www.jmicron.com/Driver.htm which I of course tried as I said in my first post ("I tried to install the latest jmicron driver"). In fact I tried the latest and the specific version 1.17.39 I've found here http://www.x-drivers.com/catalog/drivers/sata_controllers/companies/jmicron/models/jmb360/8835.html

None of these solutions worked.

I may have not understood your answer, can you please be more precise when you say "use asus link".

Again, thanks for your time.

Best regards,

Well, I come from these forums as you can see in my first post…

Update. I tried to flash my motherboard with the latest firmware (v. 1201 http://fr.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=yS3ZeqfUdCTCIFT2&content=download).
Nothing changed…
