I have this laptop with a defective DVD-ROm/CDRW - I purchased a
replacement for it and I am trying to install it. I have found on the
web how to take apart other toshiba notebooks, but this one is one of
those heavy everthing included type of machine. I am able to take off
all the screws in the bototm inclusing all under the battery. I even
removed all the gates and doors for all the different componest and I
am able to start lifting the panel (top part) where the keyboard is
and the part sorounding the touchpad. I am unable to lift past the
middle of the keyboard. There are no visibvlew screws underneath -
and I am afraid to continue lifting as I might break something.
Has anyone done this? Take apart this laptop who may know what I am
missing or what other step to take?
Thanks in advanced.

The "official procedure" involves a lot of disassembly, but I believe
that you can remove the keyboard, remove two screws (one from under the
KB and one from the bottom), and slide the drive out without doing the
disassembly indicated in the service manual.

On an unrelated note...do you have the restore disks for this machine?
Another poster was trying to obtain them after his laptop bought from
eBay was rigged somehow with parts from a different model. See the
other thread.
