Copying dvds

Hello,
how do I put more than 4.7gb on a disk and still have it play normally. I have a dvd with 6.5 gb on it and I want to make a back up copy. Splitting the files onto 2 discs doesn't work

Hello and welcome to Tom's Hardware Forums.

I haven't seen a DVD disk that can hold more than 4.7 Gb and even with 6.5 highly compressed, it would still only report as the maximum amount, if the data took up that much. Where is your figure of 6.5 Gb coming from? Is it the size on disk of the files you transferred to DVD from a hard disk?

For 6.5 GB you'd need a dual layer disk (DL) they can hold up to 8.5GB. but you would also need a DVD drive that supports Dual layer disks.
