ATI Radeon HD 4200 integrated vs. ATI Radeon HD 4350?

Forum Graphics & Displays : AMD Radeon ATI Radeon HD 4200 integrated vs. ATI Radeon HD 4350?

Hello,

I'm looking at a new HP brand PC and had a graphics question.

The model I'm looking at has
an integrated ATI Radeon HD 4200
(the system has 4GB of RAM so plenty I figure to share)

For $50 more, I can get a ATI Radeon 4350 w/512mb of RAM as
an add in card...is the extra
$50 worth whatever boost I may get?

What do you plan to do with the computer? For tasks like surfing the web or Office, the integrated is fine. If you want to game on it, neither will do very well, but the 4350 would be better.

Having a dedicated card is faster than having the integrated. It frees up memory and has quicker memory access (the dedicated ram on the card). HD4350 can be had for less than $50 from online vendors http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 0%20series so I have to say NO to that question. There are better cards out there that will cost around $50-75 but it is all based on what you are using the computer for.

Actually, the HD4350 is the same speed as the HD4200, just faster decoding and things like that, IIRC.

Just some light gaming is all I need (wouldn't mind picking up the Sims 3, trying out Champions Online, maybe giving City of Heroes another run). So I guess I would like a good "lower end" card because I don't really need the latest greatest stuff (can't afford it either ;-) So I wasn't sure if the 4350 was a noticeablely better card than the 4200 integrated.

If your range is at $50, see if you can pick up an HD4650. Or for $10 more you can get a much better card, http://cgi.ebay.com/ASUS-ATI-Radeo [...] 19bb197cee

$50 is too expensive for a 4350. HD4650 will be a better option at that price range.
