New graphics card

Hey all, just a quick question here really. Recently i got a new GeFore 9800 GT. When i installed it i noticed that i didnt have to plug it directly into my PSU. Now with most other cards i can remember using, you had to do this. Why do some cards require this when others dont ?

Some cards pull less than 75watts which is provided by the slot it self. Your version of the 9800GT is one of those cards.
