Alienware Aurora wont detect installed RAM!

Hello, dear community.

Today I picked up RAM for my Alienware Aurora.

It got 6 slots: 3 of them are filled with 1GB units.

I bought one 8GB unit, but it does for some reason not work!

What is wrong? It shows 3GB ram instead of 11GB?

Hi Markusl1

Did you read the manual and specifications to know what is the max memory and what amount of RAM support the laptop per RAM slot? I'm pretty sure that you don't did it.

If it's a single 8gb module, almost no consumer board in existance is going to support it. Your system has 6 DDR3 slots, supporting a max of 4gb per slot (24gb total max). Single 8, 16, and 32gb sticks are generally designed for servers and most consumer desktop boards will not recognize them.
