Just a general question. Wondering which puts out better from a gaming perspective. Is there any real difference between the 2?
The Intel Core 2 Duo E8500, 3.16 GHz, 1333MHz FSB, 6MB Cache, 9.5x Ratio
And
Intel Core i5 750, 2.66GHz, 8MB Cache

With only a slight price difference im wondering which is the better, at a guess i would say the i5, but just wondering if this is true or not

As far as gaming goes you probably wouldn't see too much of a difference in these two chips. Both chips are dual core and both overclock well so you could squeeze out that extra bit of performance. I wouldn't even imagine that the Turbo-Boost feature would make a significant difference since most games nowadays utilise at least two threads.

Your choice would really boil down to whether you are upgrading or building a new system. If you already have an LGA775 motherboard etc. then the Core 2 Duo would probably suit your needs. However if you're building new then go for the i5. LGA775 is a dead platform and no new chips will be released for that socket so you're limiting your upgrade paths by going that way.
