PS3 help

Hi. My PS3 will not load games or Blue Ray DVD's. Sometimes it will load into the game and freeze when loading after initial startup. Regular DVD's play, all other functions of the PS3 seem to be working just fine as far as I can tell, except a loud fan which seems to be a standard issue with the first generation ps3's. I found some information suggesting that the problem may be with the blue ray laser or the blue ray laser lens. I also tried running a cleaning dvd in the drive and it would freeze trying to load that as well. Please help. I'd appreciate all options, thoughts, and information. Thanks a million.
