New HDD wont initialize

just bought a 2tb seagate drive (Seagate ST2000DM001)

hooked it up using the exact cables that my old drive was using (and was working with)

it is recognized in the BIOS and in device manager and in disk manager

HOWEVER, when I try to initialize the disk it gives me the following error:
"The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error"

I used seatools on the disk and no problems were detected

anything else I can try or is this just a dead hdd that i have to RMA?

    From a little research, a lot people have done an RMA. I'd suggest you do the same, it's brand new and tell Seagate that you are receiving the I/O error, I think they will replace it.

    just wierd that I could see it in BIOS, disk manager, and device manager... and that I had no other errors... and that seatools said everything was fine

  6. Had the exact same problem with two Seagates ST2000DM001. They showed in disk management as 128gb each, furthermore I got the dreaded "The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error" when I tried to initialize. An obvious RMA case, vendor replaced them on the spot.
