Fresh windows install not recognizing new hard drive

Hello,

I have an HP Pavilion dv8000. The hard drive crashed, so I bought and installed a new WD Blue hard drive. Several of the bad sectors on the hard drive were in the recovery partition, so I bought a fresh copy of Windows XP.
Windows will not recognize that there is a hard drive installed, thus will not install.
The hard drive is recognized in the BIOS, and both Fedora and Linux Mint will install and run just fine. I reformatted the entire drive as fat32 using a linux Mint liveCD, and it did not help.
Any suggestions are welcome.

Nevermind. I figured it out.
XP does not natively support SATA, so I had to change the drive from SATA to IDE in the BIOS.

Well done for finding the answer. To anyone reading your thread in the future, it's also an option in some BIOS to change from AHCI to IDE to solve the same problem.
