Help Upgrading RAM

I have two 4 GB DDR3 ECC RDIMMs that I'm trying to install on a Dell Poweredge T310 with Xeon X3440 processor. A pair of 1 GB ECC RDIMMs are currently installed and working fine. However, on installing the 4 GB DIMMs the T310 shows a "System Board failure" with Error code (the 4 LEDs) 1 and 4 and a flashing amber light.

The system won't power up beyond the fans and the LEDs coming on so there's no chance of running any diagnostic tests.

On re-installing the 1 GB DIMMs the system works as per normal.

Has anybody else experienced this problem and any suggestions?

Thanks.

Theres a few things you can try to see what is cuasing the problem.

1. Reset the bios settings by chaning the cmos jumper to clear.
2. Try one of the sticks in the to the motherboard and switch them to find what causing the probelm
3. Make sure you are putting them in the right slot by color coating.
4. You might need to another stick to get it to work
