Queion about ATI 5970

i was thinking of buying a new graphics card for my computer, because i would like to watch high definition movies but my card can't run them properly (it's an nvidia, dont know the model)
so anyhow i see there's a hype about Ati 5970. can it run hd videos? also i've noticed there's a version called HD5970 and just 5970, can the first one play videos and the second can't?
