More about memory
  1. Most likely the processor would be better but what CPU RAM Board and card do you currently have and what OS are you running?
  2. What CPU, motherboard, video card and RAM are you using now?
  3. I am using

Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 (build 2600) (I also have a 64bit copy)

    2.80 gigahertz AMD Athlon II X2 240
    256 kilobyte primary memory cache
    2048 kilobyte secondary memory cache
    64-bit ready
    Multi-core (2 total)

Board: ASUSTeK Computer INC. M4A78-VM Rev X.0x
    Serial Number: MT7099K17700820
    Bus Clock: 200 megahertz
BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. 1302 07/27/2009

    2048 Megabytes Usable Installed Memory (DDR2 800Mhz I think)
    Slot 'DIMM0' has 1024 MB
    Slot 'DIMM1' has 1024 MB

ATI Radeon HD 4600 Series [Display adapter]
  4. I think the video card is the weak link in your gaming system. It's a 4670, right? What monitor resolution do you use?
For £85 the best boost to gaming would be to get a HD 4850 £62
  5. From a purely gaming point of view I don't think either upgrade will give you much improvement for the money. This looks like a real bargain while they last which should give a real big gaming boost http://www.lambda-tek.com/componentshop/index.pl?origin=gbase8.9&prodID=B256608 . I wouldn't pay money for more DDR2 memory if it means losing what you have (the extra speed will make almost no noticeable difference) and though the extra 2 processor cores would be a bonus alot of games would take advantage of them. I suggest either the 4850 or if you want a CPU wait until you can afford a 3-4 core phenom.
  6. WR2 you said the same as me at the same time twice(great minds think alike)
  7. It's a 4650 1gb ddr2 and i usually play in 1024x1280 so i think i might save up for a phenom
  8. Nice find on that 512MB HD 4850 - thats a really attractive price.
  9. Cheers, I just used google shopping.
