How necessary is a case speaker?

This will be my first build, but I will have the assistance of someone who has built a computer from the ground up, but is not an avid builder. That being said, would you deem it necessary to have a mini-speaker?

Nowadays? No, it's only used for diagnostics anyways.

I didn't attach the mini one that came with my case (maybe it was mobo).

I haven't lost sleep so far. But yeah it's diagnostic now-a-days.

As opposed to it's use in super old games or something?

Well, personally I like hearing the POST beep.

But other than that and it informing you that something is wrong you don't need it per se.

But I have always used them. I've even started a stockpile for when I can salvage them for those times when the motherboard and the case don't have them.

I prefer having them. However the computer in my sig doesn't have one. Fortunately it works great, so it was no issue. Sort of like insurance, 99.9% of the time you don't need it, but the 0.1% of the time you do, it is a lifesaver.
