I'm building a new system with a gigabyte mb, intel i3 530, win xp home edition. Part way thru the install of winxp i get the msg irql not less or equal then the system wont do anything else. Have tried removing the ram, swapping ram into different sockets; still nothing works. The system stops.. can anyone help??

Have you manually set the ram settings in the bios?

Try downloading bootable memtest86+ 4 and put it on a pen drive, then boot from it and test the ram.
