APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: 2-3 weeks from now BUDGET RANGE: ~ $1000 Before Rebates

SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: heavy number crunching/text processing, gaming

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers, OS

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: newegg.com COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: USA

PARTS PREFERENCES: AMD hexacore, ATI

OVERCLOCKING: Yes SLI OR CROSSFIRE: No

MONITOR RESOLUTION: 1600x1200

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: Would prefer a quiet machine

I'm building a machine that can be used for work and gaming. For gaming I think the 5770 will suffice for my monitor. Here's what I have so far, any thoughts? I'm not sure if the PSU is suitable for overclocking, so comments on that would be helpful. I'll probably put some more memory at a later time (I have 64 bit versions of linux and windows lying around).

^ You have a good selection of parts...
have suggestions though...

You have chosen a SATA 6GB/s HDD, but the mobo doesnt have any SATA 6GB/s ports...
Here are some parts that could save some money without sacrificing any performance...

1. ASUS CuCore Series EAH5770 + 2. ASUS M4A87TD EVO AM3 AMD 870 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0
A very good HD 5770 with a new gen mobo with SATA 6GB/s and USB 3.0

2. PSU - The BP 550 is a decent PSU but not a good one...
I would suggest this one...For the price it is a very good one and that too after rebates even more attractive...Note that this is an 80+ Certified PSU...
OCZ Fatal1ty OCZ550FTY 550W
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

3. RAM - IMO $140 for that RAM is not worth it...
Change to any of these...Even DDR3 1333MHz would be a good choice as when you populate all 4 slots, then it will be easier to set this speed than the 1600MHz...
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
If you want 1600MHz, then this one...
CORSAIR XMS3 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

4. Check out this combo -
1. AMD Phenom II X6 1090T + 2. LIAN LI Lancool PC-K62
- You get the Lian-Li for about the same price as the Antec 300 in this combo...
And the Lian-Li is far better as you can see...

Hope these help...
