Can someone direct me to a website with thw power consumption of different
laptop components (cpu, graphics cards, motherboards, USB devices, TFT
screens etc)?
I have searched for something like that but haven't found any sites yet.
It doesn't have to list everything of course (that would be impossible), I
just need a few clues.

The actual power consumption of the components isn't published
o You can work out from the CPU used
---- eg, P-M v P4
o You can estimate from TFT, typical graphics card specs
---- eg, TFTs are 20W typical
o Memory dissipation is published, check around
You may need to use desktop CPU sites to interpolate for laptop.
Another estimate is the PSU rating - although an imperfect guide.
If you have a specific laptop in mind, you could fax the company.
The company will know/provide it since some people use laptops
in 3rd world areas and need to know realistic solar-panel sizing etc.
