Nothing from video card

when the monitor comes on it says . "no input from video card monitor going to sleep" I have checked the leads and they work so does the monitor, so I got a new graphics card and that has made no difference.still says the same.
I need some help as to what to check nextplease.

This this a new monitor? Are you upgrading from another graphics card? New motherboard? How old is the monitor? Did you try putting the card in another slot? Try using a different type of connector. (DVI, HDMI, S-Video)
