Hello. I was hoping to get some advice. I'm hoping to get a triple monitor display going with either a 5770 or 5850 but I'm unsure about the monitors.
On my desktop I currently run a single W2242S and although it is 1600x1200 I think VGA is fine. My laptop is an M15X which I think is 1920x1080 and it looks great. So I don't have the money to buy 3 high res DVI monitors (unless you guys know any good deals) and was thinking of just buying VGA monitors. I don't need something absolute cutting edge, just a setup with some decent monitors in panoramic display.
I'm in the UK was looking at ebuyer, so was thinking something like one of these two: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/155601 or something else. I'd even be willing to grab second hand monitors off ebay if they were decent monitors where I could get a matching set, it'd save me money to buy other stuff.
My current monitor plugs into the DVI on my graphics card using the simple vga dvi adapter supplied with my current card. So I understand that typically the 3x DVI solution requires an active DP adapter but according to what I've read a passive DP to VGA can be used. Is this definitely the case? So could I just grab 2 dvi vga adapaters and 1 passive adapter like this?:
Yeah, you can use the adapters. You may not be able to play Blu-Rays though if you don't get HDCP monitors with DVI. Otherwise it's just about as good. I have six monitors on my computer and I use all VGA Regular aspect screens. Works great! I actually replaced some DVI monitors and I like the picture better on the analog screens.
Thanks for the reply . I've decided to allocate a bit more money to monitors after deciding I may want to use portrait mode (not want to, but since not all games will suport landscape mode portrait seems to work okay with more, like Mass Effect 2).
So the question is since I don't have money to upgrade often, purchase which setup would you buy?
1) 3 x Brand new P2210H TN monitors with 3 year warranty and 1 DP cable = £497.73 (inc vat and delivery)
2) 3 x Refurbished 2209WA IPS monitors with 1 year warranty + 1 DP cable = about £505 inc vat and delivery
I'm leaning towards the P2210Hs because of the extra warranty and I'm told the viewing angles are very good for TN monitors.
