I7 980x @ 4.5ghz
Crossfire 5970 @ 1ghz core, 6ghz memory(Well, Quad SLI GTX 480's would do better, but the PSU would be over the max wattage for a normal wall socket)
24GB 2400mhz DDR3
6 intel 160GB SSDs in Raid 0
Some high end mobo
1200W PSU from a good company

There's the essential parts for the best gaming computer, I believe.

I would make the question a little more detailed if you want a better answer then "The Best".

Maybe you can tell us whether you want AMD/Intel or how much money can go into the build?

Best gaming computer? Easy.. MINE
Wow, you have four GTX 470s on a 1200W? How high is that 980x overclocked?
You could still do better with more SSDs for load times, but otherwise that thing has to be a monster. Have you fed it Crysis for breakfast?

Show off... do you even use all your 6 cores? And why Quad SLI 470's? 4x 480 would be impressive, but y not the worlds most powerful card? the 5970...

Hi
Correction, Asus aries is the best gpu in the world. basically its two 5870 on one die while 5970 is two 5850 on 1 die.

Hi
True, my bad, but still the asus ares has taken the crown for the current fastest vga card. it has beaten 5970 quite nicely.

A question you could ask every 6 months and get a different (and correct!) answer each time. The corollary to this rule is that whatever "Best" we may build today will no longer be 'Best' in 6 months.

..and for the record - I agree with Psycho: Putting all the theorycrafting in the world onto a web page will never be able beat an actual computer sitting on (your) desk.
