Ok, I got a little problem. I dont do any hardcore gaming, so i want to do this the cheapest way possible.

I dont want to upgrade the power supply...

PC SPECS-

http://www.staples.com/HP-Pavilion-P6310-Desktop-PC/pro...

Model- HP P6310f
- AMD Athlon™ II 630 Quad-Core Processor
- 6GB installed memory DDR3
- 1 TB Hard Drive
- SuperMulti DVD Burner with LightScribe Technology
- 300 Watt Power Supply

What is the best graphics card i can buy for my system without upping the power supply?

I just want to be able to play some newer games, nothing crazy.

5670 is the best bang for the power consumption.

don't bother with the 1 gb versions though, it's really not powerful enough to take advantage of that much memory.

should play most games on medium to high settings, depending on the resolution

for $20 less is the 4670. roughly the same power consumption, should be able to play most games at around medium settings

any lower in price wouldn't really be worth the upgrade

You MAY be able to get away with a 5500 series (ATI) card, but they do require a 400 watt PSU. Sometimes it works, sometimes it just depends on the PSU in general. Besides that, you could look at some of the lower end 4k series, but in reality, I don't think you'll be able to get away with anything all that new with 300 watts.

ok guys, so the 5670 will work with a 300 watt power supply? Just wondering because it says 400w or greater in specs. If it will work, i will definitely be ordering one of those suckers ASAP.

another question.. the new video options would be dvi, dsub, and hdmi. I just bought a monitor from dell for 99 dollars. Its an lcd 20" with only VGA input. Does that mean there is no way i could use my new monitor with either GPU?

More then likely the GPU you buy with come with a dvi-vga converter for you, so you could use it fine with your vga only monitor

ok guys, what is the big difference between the HD 4670 and the HD 5670? Would the 4670 be more safe because of my 300w psu?

Gah, VGA only? Oh well, you already bought it I guess. Anyway, make sure that the video card you buy comes with a DVA/VGA adapter, or a VGA output on the card. With a 300W PSU I would say you should go with a Radeon 5570, though that's a bit weak. Anyway, if you get more into gaming consider getting a better PSU and going from there.

5670 and 4670 use the same power - the 5670 probably a little less. You're fine with either, but I'd definitely go 5670. I've run one on an older OEM box with a 250W PSU so you should be fine.

VERY easy to do. Shouldn't take but 5 minutes. Make sure you delete your video card drivers (I'm guessing your PC has integrated graphics...probably nVIDIA...so be sure to delete the video card drivers but not any chipset drivers). Oh, and download the CCC 10.3 drivers from AMD/ATI prior to doing all this so they're readily available. Shut down, install the video card in your open PCIe slot, screw it down, turn on the computer, then install the ATI drivers. You'll probably have to reboot again, but that's it.

Ok guys, im thinking about ordering either the HD 4670 or the HD 5670 RIGHT NOW. I'm leaning actually towards the 4670 right now. It seems it will do the same as the 5670, but it is cheaper, will i see any significant difference with my ssytem? My main concern is not messing up my computer since i have the 300w psu. Please HELP ME ASAP as i want to order the graphics card now :)

Id go with the 5670 personally, and if it has vga or not depends upon the manufacturer

Due to money restraints and all that, I went with the HD 4670. Hopefully it gives some good quality. Will be arriving tomorrow.

I am VERY happy with performance.

Only game i've played so far is Battlefield Bad Company 2, but damn its great. Before i could not play AT ALL, couldnt even move. Now i play on medium settings with 1600x900 resolution, which is my monitor's resolution. It looks great, no problems, amazing.

Thanks for everyones help. Very happy with my purchase, and glad it was so easy to install, first time i've ever installed anything new into a computer.
