Well, except for the unfinished 64 bit Windows XP which does not support
64 bit mode (so as not to offend the other CPU vendor who really has no
64 bit CPU available), and the estimate that it will be February 2005 or
later before the 64 bit OS available (again, so as not to offend the
other CPU vendor), and the lack of SP2-style security support (which
might be a good thing), and no 64 bit application base. Other than
those issues.

Unless your primary use is encoding, the Althlon 64 will wipe the floor with
the P4. It also supports DEP for enhanced security within SP2. The latest
build of XP x64 really lets you see how this CPU will perform in a 64-bit
environment also (which of course you won't be able to do with the P4). XP
x64, even unfinished, screams compared to XP pro (32-bit).

I though MS disclaimed compatibility of SP2 with the Athlon64?

The athlon 64 is the only mainstream processor even capable of using the DEP
in SP2. Typing this message on an Athlon64 with SP2, and have installed SP2
on 20+ A64 machines with flawless results.
