Time changes SPONTANEOUSLY in xp

Last response: in Windows XP

Running Windows XP Service Pack 2.0 on 48 machines. Sometimes the time/date seems to change spontanously during the day; sometimes to the next day sometimes to a previous day. It happens rarely but causes havoc since the applications we run depend on the dates being the same on all computers. Each station gets the date from an internal server at least once during the day. So, the machines must be changing dates on their own somehow?

Have you heard of this before? Suggestions to fix? Could it be a battery issue?

Time/date changing spontaneously points to the CMOS battery. Probably best to change all of them at once and be done with it.
