Power Supply & Case For 8 HDDs FreeNAS Server

It's been a very, very long time since i built a PC/Server, and so i'm very much out of touch on the current/new technologies.

Basically, i need a case and power supply, to support a 8x 2TB HDD FreeNAS "server", and while i would love to have the fanciest case/power supply, i really need it to be functional, meaning, no unnecessary things.

Any recommendations?

Hi newcomer and welcome to the Tom's hardware forum.

What other specifications the rig has? mobo, cpu, gpu, network card...with that we can give u a better advice.

I have not defined the mobo/cpu, but it would be no very powerful, as it is not required by FreeNAS.

Maybe an Athlon/Sempron, or something like that. GPU on board.

So far the case i like the most, that is more or less affordable (in my country at least), is the Thermaltake Atx Element S Vk60001n2z (u$s 130).

Ok.

I think that with a good 350W or 400W from a good manufacturer is enough.

Yeah if u want be sure 500W is enough for the rig. The HD usually don't use much power but like I think that u plan use the rig 7x24 is better go with a PSU that support that work.

Really funny.

Thermaltake Purepower 550W is a very good option for u since the rest of the list aren't very good.

Saludos desde Colombia...

I see. The only problem it that it has support for only 4 SATAS? Can i use an Y splitter?

Also, there is Thermaltake Tr2 500w for 7 dollars less, is it worth it?

PS: estuve en colombia hace 15 dias, en Bogota, donde tengo familia ... fuimos a tierra caliente y todo ;)

The TR2 isn't a very solid PSU that's why recommend the Purepower. Try to find a molex to sata converter (like this that's a better option.
