Hello

which of these cards would do me best? My resolution is 1440 x 900, but I want to max out nearly every game.

Thanks in advance :)

Hello and welcome to the forums :)
Performance-wise its like this:
5850>5830>5770 but for that resolution a HD 5770 is more than enough and can handle games fine

When you say this, you no longer have a choice. 5850 it is.

The 5770 is THE mainstream card to get. It performs great, overclocks great, and is priced well. It will handle most games reasonably well at your resolution.

The 5830 makes me angry. It's priced to high, is the size of a 5870, uses more power than a 5850, performs closer to a 5770 than it does a 5850. For the cost it really isn't worth it. Pay the extra $60-$80 for a 5850.

The 5850 is a great higher end card. It overclocks really well, it performs really well, and doesn't consume tons of power. It will run virtually everything maxed at your resolution, or all but maxed.

Good luck with that :D
My cards generally last me a year. This time I sprung for a 5870 so hopefully it keeps me happier longer.

If you want something that will hold you over for 3-4 years a 5850 has a far better chance. It performs around or slightly under (2) 5770's in crossfire.

Then HD 5850 is a better choice :)
About the PSU,what's your budget ?
Corsair HX520 is a good choice if you can afford it

My budget is $480 for the gpu and psu. I live in aus so it's more expensive over here. I want to get it from an online shop called mwave.com.au

Thanks for taking your time to look it up for me :D

The 5850 needs 2 pci-e power things doesn't it? The psu you showed me had only one

I was thinking of the OCZ 550 fatality. Is that a good one to get?

I opt for the XFX 5850, it has a factory OC already. $389.70

I also opt for the OCZ FAtal1ty 550W PSU. It is solid as a rock and at a good price. Has (2) 25A rails with a total 12v rating of 450W, meaning 37.5A. Not sure if you like the red LED fan or not, but you can't beat the price. $89

When you say this, do you mean before you feel the need to upgrade, or before the card gives up on you?? :pt1cable:

There are alot of good brands, The XFX had a factory OC and was what? $2 more. haha. OCZ makes good stuff to. There is alot of room of opinions in this stuff as long as the items you are looking at are decent quality. You will be a happy camper.
