Hello,

Does anyone know the name and size of the hard drive enclosure for an HP Pavilion DV5000? I have a SATA Wire enclosure and a regular SATA Wire but neither fit the prongs on my XP hard drive. Please help me understand what I need to extract the files from this hard drive. (The prongs have two rows, unlike the newer hard drives)

From a quick look at the manual(s) it appears as though the original drive in that model is an IDE drive which will have a much different connection than a SATA drive.

If you want to install a SATA drive you will have to use an adapter such as this one - http://www.amazon.com/SATA-Drive-Adapter-Laptop-Drives/dp/B004ETGOCG
To get data from the old drive you could get an external drive enclosure like one of these:
