I am planning a system for $170 with scrap parts. I have the power supply, keyboard, monitor, and os (Vista 32bit). I am buying this stuff (or your suggestions) in about a few days. I am going to use this for html editing, surfing, BF 2 is probably the most intensive game. Here is what I have:

Processor: AMD Athlon II x2 (55 dollars)
Motherboard: sorry to be generic, a AM3 (link) something like that. (hoping $60-70)
Memory: DDR3 1-2gb (which one?) ($20)
Hard drive: Seagate Barracuda or Western Digital Caviar ($20)
Video card: integrated (4200 maybe)
Total cost: $165 max

Sorry if you keep seeing me delete them, it's on accident, I promise!

I am wondering if
1) Would this junk actually boot?
2) Would it be worth my money?

Thanks in advance.

You can't get RAM or a HDD for $20.

Open Box: BIOSTAR A785G3 AM3
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
AMD Sempron 140 Sargas 2.7GHz - maybe you'll unlock it into a dual core.

Kingston 2GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1066
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
Western Digital Caviar Blue WD1600AAJS 160GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb

$172.46

Maybe not brand new, however, on eBay both of them sell for cheaps. link. And that is buy it now, which means I could get it 160gb (all I would ever need) for about the same price. If you check the prices, ddr3 memory (1-2gb) is probably going to be the same (link). I would also be able to do dual channel mode (whatever it does).

Should I put a 2gb stick now and put another one when I get the funds or should I just put in 2x 1gb sticks?
[edit]
I like the motherboard, it is a good find with 4200 graphics, thanks.
