SLI Ready?

Hi there,

I was wondering, on the boxes of some graphics cards it says "SLI Ready". Now I already know SLI means you use hardware teaming, basically using two of the same card to double the performance. What I want to know is, can a graphics card that is SLI Ready be used on its own without a partner?
