Hello All,

BUDGET RANGE: approx $1200 - $1300

SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Gaming, Watching movies, Surfing the internet, etc.

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: keyboard, mouse, speakers, OS

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: newegg.com, tigerdirect.com COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: United States

PARTS PREFERENCES: AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Quad Core Processor / Mid size Tower / 4 gigs of ram to start (cosair or something comparable)

OVERCLOCKING: Maybe

SLI OR CROSSFIRE: Maybe

MONITOR RESOLUTION: 1920x1080

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: I am willing to spend a little more if warranted. Looking for a motherboard that can be upgrade from a 4 to 6 core down the line.

I appreicate all the help I can get with this.

Thank you in advance.

No need for 6 core. They're already out and they do worse in gaming than the quad core Phenom II's.

Thank you all for the info.....I am going to review the items....Is there really much of a difference for Phenom II x4 955 and Phenom II x4 965 besides $30.00?

Most people feel that the $30 price difference doesn't justify the minimal increase in clock speed. If you're not overclocking at all, and want the fastest AMD processor you can buy, then you could go for it. Most people on here expect to at least overclock a little, and don't expect that paying $30 more will result in significantly higher speeds.

the gulftown is worse in gaming than a 930?

You said you wanted a MOBO that can support 6 core for this build. Since your processor is an AMD you must buy an AMD socket AM3 board. You can't install a gulftown Intel hexacore in an AMD board. Therefor, your only option are the AMD hexacores, which perform worse in gaming than the Phenom II x4s.

I'm not the OP btw. And I thought you meant all 6cores are slower in gaming which surprised me. So the gulftown is faster isn't it?

Gulftown has no gaming advantage over a similarly clocked i7-920.
Simple fact, games don't utilize more than 3 threads. Add a 4th for background stuff and anything beyond is wasted.

I've never really gotten on extended warranty on anything outside work. Most warranties are 2-3 years and I build a new comp every year lol.

Just check warranty lengths and ask yourself if you're still gonna be using this comp by then. GPU's get out dated real fast though, so really no need for extended warranty on those (just get 1 with a 3 yr standard, or lifetime standard).
