I was listening through my headphones on my Asus P6x58D premium motherboard when I heard a pop in my right ear, actually felt like a electric shock, and from then on the HD audio ports are giving me notifications that " new device is plugged in / removed" over and over. Is the audio chip bad? What could have caused this?

Have you tried a different pair of headphones?

Yes, multiple. The headphones were plugged into a jack on the front of my logitech 7.1 surround speakers which was actually the device plugged into the MOBO. I already RMA'd the board.

Do you think that there is any way the using the Logitech or the headphone jack on the logitech caused the problem? I don't wan't to have to send another board back.

There is a chance that the headphone port on the Logitech speakers could be bad. In that case, the problem will persist with the new board. Best way to check is to plug the headphones directly into the board and verify.
