So i am looking foward to upgrade my CPU and was leaning towards the
AMD Athlon™ II X3 440 but i have no freaking clue if this is gonna work in my AM2+ socket ... My mobo is an ASUS M2N68-LA

So let me know if its backward compatible or not, if not then can u recommend a good AM3 CPU that's backward compatible or a good AM2+ CPU ... ?

Thats an HP/Compaq board if I'm not mistaken and only spports cpu's less than 90w for the newer versions of the board (called narra) and 65w for the original version (called Ivy)
So no, that processer will not work in your system as it is a 95w part regardless of which board you have.

The link you just provided to your motherboard shows that the Athlon II isn't supported. It's under processor upgrade information if you want to check for yourself.
Motherboard supports the following processor upgrades:
Phenom with Quad Core technology (AM2+) up to 9600 (up to 95 watt)
Athlon 64 X2 with Dual Core technology X2 up to 5600+ (up to 89 watt)
Athlon 64 less than 4000+
Sempron less than 3800+

It's not going to support any of the newer Athlon II or Phenom II processors because the motherboards BIOS will not recognize them. AMD made the AM3 processors backward compatible, but it does little good when the PC makers like HP/DELL don't update their boards BIOS, reason they don't is so your forced to buy a new computer when new tech comes out.

There is of course a small chance it could work, albeit unlikely and the only way to find out is to buy a new CPU and try.

Also, don't buy anything from bestbuy. That's a major "being overpriced" facepalm. :p
