Hi guys im completely stuck and need help, my cpu overheated ages ago and the fan broke. Finally got a new fan put in today, but now the computer turns on but nothing shows on screen. And then sometimes it comes up with reboot and select proper boot device but thats it. It wont let me get into bios to check cd/floppy/hdd boot sequence it just freezes on that screen. I had that happen a couple of times but now screen is blank and computer wont show anything and no beep sequence. Its an intel P4 3.w mhz processor 1 gig ram 160 gig hdd. Have tried changing hdd but no change.

I know that people will say that probably your processor is faulty but I would disagree. The fact that sometimes the computer does boot means the processor is probably ok. Considering the age of the computer and the fact that it has not been used in a while would make me suspect that your power supply has gone faulty. Without specialist equipment substitution of the power supply is the only test.

Yeah thought that might have been it so i tried with different psu and still nothing. Processor is fine as it was running in my brothers computer while mine was down. Ancient thing has me completely stuffed but cannot afford to replace atm.

just tried to no avail...motherboard is a d915GAG if this helps at all. Have unplugged cpu fan for 2 seconds to see if processor is getting hot at all. No heat or noise whatsoever. Doesnt make sense because it was running fine just a couple of days ago in this computer and my brothers, tried a brand new psu and still did nothing. Cpu is seated correctly and power is definatly going through cord into motherboard for cpu.
