I have signed up on neweggs email alert for all the evga cards when they become available. Unfortunately I have not received any email alerts. I work at a computer all day and I keep checking there site just to see if they are available. I checked it today, and 3 people have purchased cards. It says in there review "This user purchased this item from Newegg"..????

I was wondering if anyone knows how this is happening, maybe a customer or administrator on tomshardware has some insite on this matter. I just don't feel it is fair, considering I have had no email alerts, and it says cards are sold on a "first come first serve basis". I keep checking other sites like amazon and evga, but I am worried If I preorder throuh amazon or zipflyzoom or whatever, that if there stock runs out to fast I'll be stuck waiting. Anyways anyone have any idea's on how these people got these cards before everyone else? Especially considering they said they were coming out on the 12th?

I would consider that more advertising than selling. They are all 5 eggs and only one complaint about being hot?

Wait and see how long that SLI solution lasts.

By selling, I mean sold. 3 cards SOLD. Anyone have any idea's how these people bought these cards if they aren't for sale?

Did you read the reviews? One guy says he is waiting on his and that review is from today. The other two are from yesterday and they are talking like they have the cards when expected delivery date is the official release to resellers on 4/12.
I call those reviews BS.
April 10, 2010 12:11:59 AM

Woah, This is even worse than the 58xx luanch. I think at least 4 5870s were sold in the first month.

Well it's not like someone who is skeptic or hates the card was going to wait every second on the day to get one. I'm sure all the 5870's release reviews were "perfect card omfg i will die"

April 10, 2010 2:05:20 PM

Yes but from hong kong...pass....I don't trust those at all
April 10, 2010 2:29:26 PM

Those who get it first are poor ppl wanting to sell the cards on ebay and make some extra money ,I hate those ediots btw
April 10, 2010 2:46:58 PM

Ok so they are poor so they risk buying a 500$ card and hope to sell it for 200 over it's worth, they make a profit and they are both poor and idiots? I have to greatly disagree...

Might mean poor in mental capacity. It is a whole lot more efficient just to work for your money.

A fool and his money are soon parted. So either the fool is the one buying the card hoping to Ebay for profit, or he is right, and the fool is the one buying the card over Ebay for a greatly exaggerated price.

Resellers are ethically questionable, but capitalism doesn't care about ethics. C'est La Vie.

Where there is profit to be had, ppl will be there:)

U can count on me. I haven't sold my 5870 just incase this card didn't perform:)  but if this card doesn't perform I might sell the 5870 anyways to grab the xfx 5970 black edition with 4 gigs gddr

" As some of our astute forum readers have noticed, NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 400 series have started showing up early. Officially they have been and are still scheduled for a full retail launch next week, but for the past few days a few of them have been showing up in small batches at etailers.

We shot off a quick question to NVIDIA about the matter and got a response last night. The gist of the matter is that NVIDIA started shipping the first retail GTX 400 boards to their partners last Saturday, which means that those partners with a fast turnaround time in boxing and air shipping have already managed to get them in to etailers’ hands. NVIDIA isn’t enforcing a hard launch date here, so everyone is allowed to sell their cards as soon as they can."

That is a really impressive turnaround time. I hope they did sufficient testing.
April 10, 2010 9:48:18 PM

I would think that would be NV's/TMCs job.
April 11, 2010 12:28:34 AM

yes auto notify is the shizall,i gotz me 2 470,s and newegg hasnt failed me yet
April 11, 2010 12:37:48 AM

Hehehhehe.

You spent 700$ on 2 GTX 470s when the logical choice was a 5970.

Enjoy mate.
April 11, 2010 3:00:06 AM

I don't like this insulting ppl's purchases I don't get it did he ask u for a logical choice? that was rude as hell....

5970 is basically as strong as 2 5850s because of the underclock. And the 470 exchanges blows with the 5870 already. The 5970 is about the same money, and u need to oc it to beat 2 470s.

Price per perf it's 5970 but power it's 470 sli
April 11, 2010 12:26:54 PM

The 5970 is faster than the 5850CF, Becuase it uses 5870 cores wit no defects.
April 11, 2010 1:16:00 PM

Benchmarks I've seen show them pretty much on par. With 2 5870s being faster. Either way 2 470s should be faster. It's just not as cost effective, and u don't have as much room accessible
April 11, 2010 1:30:05 PM

Hm, I was messing around on newegg one day and searched the GTX 480.I actually seen one of the GTX 480 brands were in stock. I didn't think anything abnormal of it though as I thought were were supposed to already be out. I'm not sure if those were preorder only or something, but definitely one of the brands were in stock as I clicked it and it said add to cart.

Well, The 5970 is 2 5870 chips.

And the 5870 is faster.

And then there's heat, power etc.

The 470 SLI also requires a SLi mobo, 2 PCIe slots, and a very hefty PSU.

But they ARE the same price now, So I can know longer say the 5970 has the pricing advantage...

But still, Faster (When put back to stock)

Less heat.

Less power.

Less space.

More convienent.
April 11, 2010 2:20:16 PM

Put to stock? 5970 is stocked at 5850 speeds. It can be iced o match the 5870 which exchanges blows with the 470 as it is. Then u can oc the 470 as well. Also... X58 boards support both sli and cf now so not a big thin for most ppl. Nv chipsets are gone(thank god).

That's why I love x58s u have a choice.

I think between the 5970 and the 470 sli it's a matter of company preference.

I would personally consider using 470sli over a 5970 if I had an x58 mobo and a PSU up to snuff. Those look pretty good to me, a better price/perf ratio it seems, in a similar way to the 5850/70 comparison.

By SLI mobo I mean A mobo with 2 pcies.

And a 5970 is just all around better than 2 470s.

And the only reson the 5970 was downlocked was to sat under 300W, (Something 2 470s fail misreably at)

OC 5970 vs OC 470 SLI

Every category the 5970 will win.

I received the e-mail alert via my cell phone at 2:37 pm on April 8th. If you use your cellphone#@yourcellcarrier.com, (ex: 55512345678@txt.att.net or) you can get the auto notify e-mail via a txt message to your phone a whole lot faster.

Unfortunately, I was not able to jump on the PC fast enough, and 1-hour later, they were all SOLD OUT. Only the lucky few who got this were able to get the worm early and were lucky enough to have their GTX 480 shipped to them overnight.
