Ethernet cabled dsl versus wireless

I have a dell desktop running a vista OS that is hooked up to DSL with ethernet which I am using to send this message. My wife recently got a dell Inspiron series laptop that has windows 7 OS that we want to set up wireless. I can't get the wireless router setup. It is a netgear router DGN 1000 and it has a setup disc with it.Could my wired desktop somehow be sabotaging the wireless router?

Don't use the setup disk with Win 7 if it's not designed for it. Install the router manually. Read the quick start leaflet that came with the router (or download the manual from Netgear's support site)
