Any experince with Tri-State photo out of NY. They have new in the box
(US) D-70's for sale on EBAY for $1140 including shipping. They say in the
add there is a $100 coupon rebate from Nikon and of course you would avoid
local sales tax.

Tri-State has a pretty bad rep. Stick with Adorama and the couple others
with a reputation for honest dealing and you won't be back here crying next
week.

I walked into Tri-state and bought a D70 after they let me return my 8800,
which I wasn't happy with. A real store will usually be quite different from
their website, so this may not be applicable. I bought my D70 for 1028.00 with
18-70 kits lens AFTER the rebate from Tristate.

Forget Pop Photo!
In spite of their claims about checking out the shops that advertise in
their rag, they don't care ONE LITTLE BIT. Some of the most notoriously BAD
shops continue to advertise there...and they keep their little "Check-Rated"
logo, or whatever BS Pop Photo uses now.

Stick to:

www.bhphotovideo.com
www.adorama.com

While there ARE a few other reputable places, do NOT "price-shop" in Pop
Photo. The shops advertising the lowest prices there are almost assuredly
scams.
Please take this seriously, or your next post will be one of dismay.

Nobody's mentioned resellerratings.com. Always look there
before dealing with an unknown store.

Thanks Mark, Yes i know about the advertisers in Popular Phot., it has just
been so long since I have ordered photo equipment that I have forgotten the
names of the people I used to use. Thanks for the reference to B & H as
they are one that I have purchased from in the past. Seems like I have
bought some filters and a lens or two and tripods from them, but we are
talking 15 or 20 years ago. I have a hard time remembering 6 momths ago.

It has been a long time and now that I am retired, I am geting back into
the hobby. 10 or 20 hiurs reworking slides with Photo Shop elements 3.0
has conviced me that I don't want to go the chemical route again.

The new 47th Street is not the one you remember. They went bankrupt years
ago.

Check carefully the reputation of the new one at resellerratings.com or
photo.net/neighbor before ordering from them.

I've seen their ebay auctions, and see "package deals" that are more
package than deal.

Go with what people here recommend. Pop Photo is in the business of
promoting crooks - that is who pays their bills.
I deal with Adorama
www.adoramacamera.com
and have since the mid to late 1980s. I know them and trust them. Start a
thread. Ask for recommendations. You will find a couple other companies that
get high marks from users, but most of the scum that advertises in the back
of Pop are not going to deliver.

However, both B&H and Adorama both advertise heavily in the back of PopPhoto as
well, so you can't just use the criteria that an advertiser is a scam merchant.

You didn't read what I wrote:
"Go with what people here recommend."

Pop Photo is NOT a reliable source even if an honest dealer or two
advertises in the magazine. If you ask a crack whore for directions to the
nearest good hotel, she might, on occasion, actually direct you to a hotel
where she doesn't get a discount on the rooms and there are no stains on the
sheets. This does not mean that when in a strange town you should seek out
crack whores to get hotel directions.
