Forum Systems : Homebuilt Help me please!!

So I've had a homebuilt system (built by a friend) for about 6/7 months now and in that time, I've upgraded from Vista to Windows 7. What I'm looking at doing is a "Restore to Factory settings" because the system is running quite slow (I've backed up everything of interest and just want to start fresh with this computer again). Will this put me back onto Vista as it was when first installed or will it put me back to when I first upgraded to W7?

Thanks in advance!

I dont know the answer, but do you have the vista OS disk with a license on it?? if so, and your all backed up to another drive you can format your os drive and reload vista and start fresh. I wonder why it runs slower. Must be driver related?? did you check for a bios update for your MB? Or search google for win7 issues with your specific MB. You might be able to save this without reloading vista. I would list your MB model and bios version as well win7 version. One of the experts here might answer your question if they have enough info.
Good Luck

First... Is your Windows 7 disk an upgrade disk or a Full/OEM version?

If it is an Upgrade disk, you'll need to do a fresh install of Vista and go through the upgrade process to Win7.

If it is a Full/OEM version disk, just do a fresh install of Win7 and you'll be good to go!

It's an upgrade disk. Looks like i'm going to have to do it the long way =(

Thanks for the answer!

Actually it doesn't matter if he has a license for vista at all. It just needs to be taking up room on the hard drive for an upgrade copy to let you wipe it. In fact this may be made easier by actually installing XP instead. Since the only choice during the upgrade is to wipe it clean then installing win7.

If its running slow have you thought of just removing the virus? Seems to me to be a lot easier, depending on what your infected with that is.
