That's a strange dilemma, given that the two CPUs exist far from each other in AMD's portfolio.
A lot depends on your graphic card. Which one are you getting?
The 440 will be sufficient for most games at high resolution. Overclocking it will definitely make it more attractive.
But obviously, the 955 will exceed it in all benchmarks. Plus it will overclock more easily.

Is the 955 worth the $105 over 440? That's for you to judge based on your intended usage.
If it was me, I'd get the 955.

the choise is between theres two because i wanted to go either for a really good quad or a really good trio/dual.

The 1st amd quad core is the athon 635 which is £95/100 still a £40 difrence to the 440 and for the £30 i thoght the 955 was worth it.

440 = £60
635 = £95
955 = £130

i plan to use the 5770

sorry for triple post wont let me edit

if there are any other cpu i should be looking at let me know i am open to your opinions

The 440 is your best current day gaming option for that card. I can't see an improvement in framerate with that card paired with a more powerful CPU, unless you are playing FSX.

i dont mind that the 5770 being a bottle neck, as i think it means if i want i can add another 5770 at a later date.

No he was saying that the 955 bottlenecks the 5770, which isnt true.
