That's a strange dilemma, given that the two CPUs exist far from each other in AMD's portfolio.
A lot depends on your graphic card. Which one are you getting?
The 440 will be sufficient for most games at high resolution. Overclocking it will definitely make it more attractive.
But obviously, the 955 will exceed it in all benchmarks. Plus it will overclock more easily.

Is the 955 worth the $105 over 440? That's for you to judge based on your intended usage.
If it was me, I'd get the 955.

the choise is between theres two because i wanted to go either for a really good quad or a really good trio/dual.

The 1st amd quad core is the athon 635 which is £95/100 still a £40 difrence to the 440 and for the £30 i thoght the 955 was worth it.

440 = £60
635 = £95
955 = £130

i plan to use the 5770

The 440 is your best current day gaming option for that card. I can't see an improvement in framerate with that card paired with a more powerful CPU, unless you are playing FSX.

the 440 would be the better match with the ATI 5770

why is the 635 so much more then the 440? its not worth the extra cost from what you posted

the 955 is also a nice CPU but would be bottlenecked by your video card.

i dont mind that the 5770 being a bottle neck, as i think it means if i want i can add another 5770 at a later date.

Yes it does. :lol:

Anyways, As the others have said the 440 will be the nice balance for you're gpu. Although the 955 are always nice.

the 440 will work fine with the 5770 CF, 5830, or GTX460

i have a GTX460 & Phenom II x4 955 set up, i also have the amd x3 435 @ 3.5ghz in a different computer.
