DVD rom not detecting files on dvd dell windows7

Hello,
i have been trying to copy paste some files from dvd to computer but they would not show instead it shows that the disk is empty which it is not.but the dvds which have install or run program from media are working properly.i have dell inspiron n5010 win7 home basic

either the disc is damaged or the data is written incorrectly, or your optical drive is defective.

i think my computer is infectednby some artemis virus or trojan or some other virus
