I think it's finally about time I got my home PCs connected to my ADSL through a router rather than using ICS. However, I'm a little puzzled as to what I need. I currently have 2 PCs (specs in sig). My net connection is ADSL and provided through a Fujitsu FDX310 ADSL modem. This is connected to the phoneline using a typical 'modem type' cable (RJ11???). The modem is connected to my desktop PC via USB.
I currently have at my disposal a Linksys WRT54G switch. The port for connection to the Internet is a typical Ethernet port.
So my question is, how am I supposed to connect the router to the Internet provision? Is there just a cable I need that goes from modem plug to Ethernet plug (FDX310 to WRT54G)? Or is the solution somehting else entirely?
I'm not at all new to networking, but it's the first time I've attempted to share 'Home Internet' type stuff.
you need an RJ45 Cat-5 cable (see page 6 of the manual0 to connect from the DSL modem to the router. It's the same cable as is now going from the DSL modem to your PC. So you need to buy another one to go from the router to your PC (you already have one going to the other PC).
Ok I'm starting to think that the WRT54G won't fulfil my needs (good job it's works and not mine) and that I need something more like this BEFDSR41W - a combined ADSL modem and router (the port on the back of it looks more like what I connect directly to my phone line rather than a normal ethernet port).
