Simply put, Heres my problem: Im getting two options at the moment

■Used GTX-295 for 420$

■New: HIS5870 for 480$

■new: HIS5850 for 360$

Things to consider:
1- Usage: Gaming and more gaming!

2- Gaming Resolution is: Daily 1680x1050 / occasional 1920x1200

3- Current PSU: CM600W (75%Eff)

-----

What should i go for? Given that 295 has huge fps numbers, plus the SLI issues (if applicable). 5870 costs more, but DX11, and lower power are lucrative...

well, the thought crossed my mind, but with the current 285, wudnt that be a step down? I mean, i know 5850 equal to the 285 in performance, but the whole point of upgrade is going up :) ...

Ive been reading reviews, and 5870 is really appealing to me... the gtx 4 series arent that much interesting sadly :( But the cheaper 295 also has an attraction :S

im using P7p55D for the i7 (specs in profile) .. and it has crossfire. Ive read we can crossfire a 5870 with a 5850 for lesser cost alternative asewll, so i am inclined towards a "lateron" xfire...

I live in Pakistan, hence the high prices :( (After imports etc) .. Btw, a a 5970 will be too much for this res. 5870 will be better...

One of the main reason i was confused was that the 295 was going so cheap (and with warranty) ... but seeing the response here, no one is opting for it lol

well, based on ur opinions, ive removed the 295 from the list :) . Ill be looking fwd to the 5870 prolly, unless i get good deals for a 5850. Btw, HIS is a good brand( read reliable)? Or if possible i shud go for Asus or MSI?

Get the reference design just to be sure it can be modded. All brands same as quality goes, customer support= XFX, Asus. All reference are made by ATi anyway.

stick to your 25. Can you tell me which game does the 285 lag behind in. Do not waste your money now. Rather buy a powerful PSU from that and save the rest. save money and buy a 5970 a month or 2 later. That is the best you can do. 5870 now would be a waste of money at the moment

Metro2033 will make any configs but 2x5870 or above cry at 1920x1080 Max
Seriously, if Metro2033 is already peaking my 2x5850, how the hell would I be able to play Crysis2 =.=

A 5850@1Ghz will play Metro maxed with Tesslation perfectly. ~40Fps

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOLjROF_o0g

Its when you enable 4xAA that will bring it down to ~30Fps.

But this is at 1680x1050 it should still be playable @ 1920. Interesting is when you enable 4xAA at 1920+, all the 1Gb cards fail or give ~5Fps, even the 5970 as it also has 1GB/GPU.

That means you can't max it =.=
What I mean by maxing is everything Very high at 4xAA
