Hi all,
My friend has just bought a phenom II 550 to pair up with his Asrock 870 Extreme 3.
After trying to set ACC mode to auto from the bios, he just could not log into windows 7 x64 anymore (the computer just hanged when the windows logo appeared).
However, when he had a look on his bios, the CPU was read as Phenom II x4 B50 and four cores were detected.
Any suggestion?

Bad cores just because bios sees it doesn't mean it will be stable the cores are most likely defective.

^This. Or you might need to do a Windows Repair. SOmetimes if the core count changes it screws with Windows.

But I doubt it since 7 is pretty hard to mess with in the first place.

I will still go with the fact that the CPU you got truly did have bad cores.

Is there any way that we could try, like increasing core voltage or lower the HT bus speed or something?

raising the core voltage could help, sometimes the cores are not completely dysfunctional they may just need more voltage then would allow them to remain in the advertised TDP, so it's worth a shot but you probably just got a models with an actual defective core
