Hard Drive help

I have a Seagate Barracuda 7200, 500 gb hard drive that was in my old Sky box. I removed it and planned to put it in my pc as an additional drive but its not recognised. The drive is powering up and i can hear/feel it spinning. I tried another drive using the same connections and its ok. Is it dead or is there anything else i can do?

Thanks in advance

  1. If it shows up in bios but not windows then It probably has a Partition that you will need to delete first.
You can try Diskpart(goole it), or a 3rd party disk partitioning software.

If it will NOT show up in bios, probably will not be able to fix.

Elaborate. When you enter the BIOS on startup, can the BIOS see it?

    What about Windows?
Right-click 'My Computer' -> Click "Manage" - >Click "Disk Management"

The Disks connected to your computer will be listed and any partitions they have will also be shown. Does the disk show up there?
  3. Hi

The drive is not showing in bios or hardware
  4. if there ide drives check the jumper on the drive..you can only have one master and one slave per ide cable.
  5. If ther old HDD is IDE and new system is SATA and MB has an IDE cinnector, may need to enable the IDE in Bios.
