I am looking to build my first pc and i know i want to go with an AMD cpu but is the X6 1090t worth the $140 extra or should i just stick with the X4 955

(i plan on geting the ASUS Crosshair IV Formula AM3 AMD 890FX)

What are you doing with the build? If it's gaming, then the 955 would be better since the X6 doesn't add any performance. If it's productivity, the X6 would be better.

Also, the Crosshair is overpriced. You can get better boards at over $100 less (like the Gigabyte GA-790XTA-UD4.

You might want to follow the guidelines (the link is in my signature). If we have all the relevant information, we can put together the best build you could possibly get for your money.

The 8xx chipsets don't really give you anything. The only thing you get is the ability to drop in a hexa-core CPU (which you don't need) without upgrading the BIOS (which isn't difficult and is free). Why pay more and not get anything for it?

Also, there are plenty of 8xx boards that aren't $230. Like the Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H, Asus M4A89GTD Pro/USB3,Gigabyte GA-890XA-UD3, Asus M4A89GTD Pro, Gigabyte GA-890FXA-UD5, and several others.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that the X6 is definitely not needed for your uses. Een the 955 may be overkill depending on what you have to sacrifice to get it...
