Recover lost files

Last response: in Windows XP

A friend has asked me if I could take a look at his once functioning computer. For some reason his drive now is labeled as RAW not FAT32 nor NTFS. It seems the drive got wiped but there is something still taking up space and was hoping a program may be able to recover the files or best case scenario find the windows folder and files and boot.
What could have caused such a thing and what program has the best success rate at retrieving the files?

Here are some possible software solutions:
If the program runs a deep scan, highly suggested, it will take a while for the program to find recoverable files.
A possible reason for the drive to have become "RAW" is the Master Boot Record is corrupt.

RAW file system drive can be caused by many reasons, such as the virus attack, improper operation or even drive corruptions. So, you should tell you friend to use his drive properly and do regular anti-virus scan in the future.
But now, to retrieve his files back, he can try a drive recovery freeware that has helped many people recover their data back. And as I know, he can try the “Deep Scan Recovery” option to restore your data from the other three recovery options.

He can get this freeware ther:-

Note: You should remind him to format his drive for changing the RAW file system into NTFS or FAT32.
You also should remind him to back up his important data regularly.
