Now without wanting to seem silly, have you tried the computer's USB socket ?

If all of them are already in use, you can add a hub for not much money.

As you are in the wireless networking forum, presumably you are referring to a wireless adapter. Usually best to first install the driver from the CD which came with the wireless adapter -- or download it from Belkin.
