Archived from groups: alt.cellular.cingular (More info?)

I just heard from my brother that it's possible to unlock newer Ericsson
cells, but his was a SIM using GSM.
This old T19LX has no SIM and is TDMA.
Anybody know if it's possible with it?
His required buying a little EPROM burner plug that plugged into it's
sync/power plug.
Also, is there a point?  Is anybody writing new TDMA contracts?
