External drive stack

Last response: in Systems

I am thinking about building an external drive stack to plug my Netbook into that would have a DVD/CD drive and one or two SATA drives. I would be using a PC power supply for the 12 and 5 VDC and the USB interfaces and hub. My question is: how do you turn on an AT or ATX power supply without a motherboard attached? Any help/advice would be much appreciated.

This might help ... I can't guarantee your safety or that of your components but a hefty piece of solid copper wire (like 14 gauge household romex ground wire), fasionned into a jumper, and properly insulated *might* do the trick.

P.S. ..get other certified opinions ! ... write a tech support email (request for info) to some of the official PSU support teams (manufacturer's support site) ... tho they prolly don't want the liability either.
