Fix a white screen on my desktop

Windows XP - white screen comes up when logging on - can you help ?

Hi Phil -

When I turn on the PC, you can see Windows XP is loading, you can see the desktop and icons for about 20-30 seconds and then the WHITE screen appears... and stays. The only way to get anything is to turn the tower off and then the system shuts down.

I tried F8 safe mode no luck, debugging option no luck and don't know what to try from here. I am only a user and do not know much about PCs or what to do about this.

I do have the original disk to load in Windows again but not sure what to try and in what sequence (i.e.: out disk in BEFORE turning on or after and what to do from there.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
